Summer High School Volunteer Program

Our program for summer 2025 is full and is now closed.

  • The summer 2026 program will run from June 21 to August 15.
  • The application for the summer 2026 program will be available in Feb 2026 (Feb 23 target).
  • Check back in August of 2025 for information about fall placements for our School Year High School Volunteer Program.

NOTE: Applicants for the High School Volunteer Program must be 15 years old at the time of application.

Acceptance into the volunteer program is contingent on satisfactory results of the interview, occupational health screening, background check and other information provided by the volunteer.

Requirements for the summer program:

  • Students must commit to volunteering for 7 out of the 8 weeks. One week off is allowed during the program. We are unfortunately unable to accommodate any exceptions to this requirement.

  • In-person volunteer placement
    • Students will be assigned to one clinical and one non-clinical assignment or two non-clinical assignments.
    • 2 shifts per week. The total time requirement is approximately 4-8 hours per week

  • Attendance required for at least 3 of the 6 career explorations/medical innovation sessions (to be held in a hybrid model)
    • Students can pick any three that interest them or work best with their schedule.  Students are welcome to attend more than 3 if they would like. There will be a total of 6 sessions held.

  • Attendance at a mandatory Welcome Session prior to program start. Dates will be discussed during the volunteer interview.
  • A summer celebration event will take place near the end of the program.

How To Apply for the Summer Program:

  • Complete an NWH Volunteer Application .
    • Students will also need to submit a ‘Minor Authorization to Volunteer’ form. This will be uploaded into the application when applying online.
    • All students must complete an application regardless of whether they have volunteered or applied to volunteer at NWH in the past.

  • Once your application has been submitted, applicants will receive an automated email with the instructions about how to schedule an interview.
  • The automated email will contain a link to schedule your interview. This link will go live on the first Monday of March at 4:00pm.
  • Interviews will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis.  Placement in the program will continue until all assignments are filled.  We anticipate that this program will fill quickly.
  • If all the interview slots are filled, you will have the opportunity to add your name to a waitlist. The link for the waitlist is in the automated email that you will receive after applying.
  • Interviews take place via Teams and are approximately 30 minutes long. During the interview we will talk about your interest in volunteering, availability for volunteering, and positions that are currently open. Once the interview is scheduled, applicants will receive a calendar invite with the interview link and information to prepare for the interview.

    After your Interview:
  • Students who are accepted into the program will need to provide documentation of the following vaccinations: MMR, Varicella, current Flu Shot, Covid-19. Students will also need to complete a tuberculosis test (skin or blood test) within 90 days prior to their start date.
