Vadim Parsegov is an Emergency Room Technician at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and he participated in our Patient Care Assistant Training Program. Vadim came from the United States from Russia with his family in 1996, and he became a U.S. citizen as a child when his mother became a citizen.
After graduating from Franklin High School, Vadim started working in our Gift Shop in October 2010. “I had a lot of retail experience and great customer service skills, so the cashier position was a good starting place for me,” Vadim said. “I was happy to jump on the opportunity.”
While reading our Take Note newsletter in 2011, Vadim learned about our on-site Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Training Program. PCAs work closely with our nurses to provide quality patient care, and they’re an integral part of our health care team.
Vadim was interested in gaining clinical experience, so he enrolled in the five-week PCA Training Program. The training combines classroom instruction and clinical practice for participants. Vadim successfully completed the program and became a PCA. He worked in that role for a year before being promoted to an Emergency Room Technician.
“The PCA Training Program enabled me to get hands-on experience with direct patient care, which I very much enjoy,” Vadim said. “In fact, it is what made me decide to pursue a career in nursing.”
In 2012, Vadim attended MassBay Community College part-time to take the courses needed prior to enrolling in a nursing program. While in school, Vadim took advantage of the NWH Tuition Reimbursement program to offset his college expenses.
Vadim’s ultimate goal is to continue his education and become a physician assistant, nurse practitioner or certified registered nurse anesthetist.
