Expert Care for Lung Cancer

If you are diagnosed with lung cancer, our team of cancer experts is ready to provide the treatment you need. We’ll work closely with you to create a personalized treatment plan that targets your specific type of lung cancer and that factors in your unique medical needs and concerns

Your treatment plan likely will include one or more of the following options:

  • Medical oncology, the use of medications to treat your cancer
  • Radiation oncology, the use of radiation to shrink or destroy tumors
  • Surgical oncology, the physical removal of tumors or breast tissue

On top of the advanced care offered by the experts in these specialties, you may be able to take advantage of newer treatments that aren’t yet available elsewhere by participating in clinical trials. These trials allow our doctors to help shape the future of lung cancer care by testing the latest therapeutic options. Learn more about our clinical trials.

Screening and Detection of Lung Cancer

Our doctors use a number of tests to help them screen patients for lung cancer. Patients at high risk for lung cancer who haven’t shown any symptoms may be good candidates for regular low-dose CT scans. This exam is part of our lung cancer screening program, which is nationally accredited by the American College of Radiology. We also often detect lung cancer in patients with a standard chest X-ray.

If these tests show an unusual result, or if your doctor is concerned about coughing, chest pain, lung problems, or other potential symptoms of lung cancer, you may need additional testing. One such test is a sputum test, in which you cough up sputum or fluid from your lungs that our pathologists examine for cancer cells.

Your doctor might recommend a bronchoscopy, in which your doctor inserts a long, thin tube with a camera down your throat and into the lungs to look for unusual tissue. In some cases, you may need a biopsy, in which a small sample of your lung tissue is removed and examined for signs of cancer.

Total Support for You and Your Loved Ones

Lung cancer treatment is a complex, often challenging process to navigate, and you don’t have to do so alone. Our highly trained nurse navigators will help you coordinate the many appointments, tests, procedures, and other necessities of your treatment plan. In addition, these experts can help answer your questions or find answers to those questions, as well as point you toward support systems and be there for you in your time of need.

There’s more to providing comprehensive cancer care than just treating your disease. We care for you as a whole person, not simply a patient. We encourage you to take advantage of our cancer survivorship care to help you along the way. These services include science-based nutritional care, led by a board-certified specialist in oncology nutrition, as well as relaxation services that can lower your stress levels and help promote the body’s natural healing processes.

We also provide resources that are crafted to support you and your loved ones during your cancer treatment, such as our cancer support groups and special programs.

However you need us during your journey through lung cancer treatment and beyond, our doctors, oncology nurses, and other cancer experts will be here for you.
