Support Groups for Cancer Patients, Survivors and Caregivers

Support groups are designed so attendees can gain support through discussing their experience and connecting with others. Our groups help patients, who come to us from throughout the Greater Boston area, to cope with their diagnosis and make meaning of this illness in their lives.

Caregivers' Support Group

A support group for people who are caring for family members or friends who have cancer. Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley’s Caregiver Support Group is a group for caregivers, aimed at providing education and support within a small group setting, to encourage healthy ways to help while patients are going through treatment.  The group meets on Wednesday afternoons. Please contact the group facilitator to express interest: Ashley Norby, LICSW, telephone 617-219-1236 or anorby@partners.org.

We welcome all members of the community to join this group — even those who are caring for patients seeking care at another hospital.

The Caregiver Support Group is for people who are caring for friends or family members who have cancer. Taking care of a person with cancer is a physically and emotionally challenging experience. This group will provide a place for caregivers to come together to share practical concerns, as well as thoughts and feelings, with other people who are going through a similar life experience. The agenda of the group will be open-ended and will reflect the wishes and needs of the group members.

Paving the Path to Wellness for Breast Cancer Survivors

Based on the principles of Lifestyle Medicine, the PAVING 12-week program provides education on the importance of healthy eating, exercise, sleep, stress management, and the power of personal connections, led by Dr. Amy Comander, Medical Director of the Auerbach Breast Center and Director of Suvivorship at Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley.  Participants in this group will take each step together, and share personal strategies and solutions for positive lifestyle changes.  This program will empower participants to adopt and sustain healthy habits for a lifetime, in a supportive, collaborative environment.

The next 12-week program will begin September 9, 2020. Space is limited. Paricipants are encouraged to participate in the full 12-week program. To register or learn more, email WellnessAfterCancer@partners.org.
