Resources for Cancer Patients and Their Families

Support during cancer treatment and beyond.

Whether you are a patient who has been diagnosed with cancer or you have a loved one with the disease, having a good support system in place is critical.  We offer a number of support groups and programs for patients and families who have been touched by cancer.

Support Groups

Support groups allow you to share your story and and gain strength from others who understand what you’re going through. We offer support groups for cancer survivors and caregivers for loved ones with cancer. Learn more.

Special Programs

Our special programs address unique needs or challenges that can arise as a result of a cancer diagnosis or treatment. Learn more.

The Pappas PACT Program

The Pappas PACT (Parenting At a Challenging Time) Program helps parents who are undergoing cancer treatment address the challenges of raising children during this difficult time. As part of this free program, our PACT child, adolescent and adult psychiatrists work with you to create practical plans for the entire family to adjust to a parent’s diagnosis and treatment. Explore the benefits of the PACT Program.

Palliative Care

Palliative care helps patients manage the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment. Palliative care experts help:

  • Prevent and relieve suffering
  • Improve patients’ quality of life
  • Address patients’ physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs

Palliative care is available for patients at any stage of the cancer treatment process. Learn more.

Healthy Choices and Coping Skills

As a cancer patient, your participation in your care is key by making healthy choices and managing the stress involved with your diagnosis and care.

For additional support for stress management and quitting smoking, contact us.

Additional resources for Patients and Families

The following resources can provide more information for patients and loved ones:

  • The American Cancer Society is a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to the elimination of cancer as a major health problem.
  • ClinicalTrials.gov is a database by the U.S. National Library of Medicine that provides information on privately and publicly funded clinical studies.
  • Facing Cancer Together is a cancer networking and support group community for patients, survivors, and caregivers.
  • The National Cancer Institute offers information about cancer-related topics, trials, statistics and research.
