Surgical Oncology

Depending on your condition and unique needs, your treatment plan may include surgery on its own or along with other treatments, such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Advanced surgical treatment of cancer

Our surgical oncologists diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Breast cancer
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Endocrine cancer
  • Gastrointestinal tumors
  • Gynecologic cancer
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Malignant melanomas
  • Soft-tissue sarcomas
  • Urologic tumors

Surgical Oncology Procedures

Our surgical oncologists are experts with a wide range of procedures:

  • Needle biopsy – removal of a small sample of suspicious tissue for examination by a pathologist
  • Open biopsy – removal of tissue through an incision for examination by a pathologist
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy – removal and examination of lymph nodes to determine the stage of cancer
  • Lumpectomy – a breast-conserving surgery that involves removal of a suspected cancerous tumor or lump in the breast
  • Mastectomy – most or all breast tissue is removed to treat breast cancer
  • Removal of tumors and surrounding tissue for treatment of other cancers

Whenever possible, our surgeons use the latest minimally invasive techniques to reduce patients’ pain and shorten recovery time after surgery.
