Meet Our Chaplains

 

Our chaplains are clinically trained, have master’s-degree-level theological education, and observe standards of practice for use in acute-care settings. Our spiritual care volunteers provide additional support.

Chaplain Alyssa Adreani
Interfaith Chaplain, Department Manager: 617-243-6634 

  • Education: BA/MA in applied linguistics, Boston University; MA, pastoral ministry, Boston College School of Theology; ministry certificate in field supervision, Harvard Divinity School
  • CPE placements: St. Vincent’s Hospital (Worcester, Massachusetts), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston), St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center (Boston)
  • Professional associations: Member, Association of Professional Chaplains (board-certified)
  • Professional interests/specialization: Spirituality and recovery, emergency medicine/chaplaincy, homelessness/spirituality. Alyssa is a 20-year practitioner of meditation and is Reiki I trained/certified. She has also assisted in facilitating spiritual care for inmates and detainees at the Suffolk County House of Corrections in Boston.

  • Education: BA, comparative literature, University of California, Davis; Master of Theological Studies, Boston College School of Theology and Ministry; MBA in finance, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School; MA, comparative literature, University of California, Berkeley
  • CPE placements: Boston Medical Center, Rhode Island Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
  • Professional associations: Member, Association of Professional Chaplains
  • Professional interests/specialization: Marlene is trained in offering spiritual direction and regularly practices centering prayer and meditation.  She helps facilitate retreats for women in transition from homelessness and substance addiction.

The Role of Our Hospital Chaplains

As an integral part of the patient care team, our chaplains:

  • Advocate for the spiritual needs and preferences of patients
  • Contribute a spiritual perspective to a patient’s particular situation and plan of care
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team and family meetings
