Craig's Story

At 24 years old, Craig hit his breaking point.Craig's story with bariatric surgery

He couldn’t fasten his pants—his size 50 pants. He had dieted and exercised and attempted to lose weight on his own. But he knew he needed help.

“I’ve been big my whole life. For as long as I can remember. But I’ve never been depressed about it. I always accepted I was the big guy in the group and for the most part was OK with that. But in 2013, at a size 50 waist, that changed.”

When his primary care physician identified him as a candidate for bariatric weight loss surgery, he chose Dr. Partridge at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. At the time of his surgery, Craig weighed 367 pounds. Over the next several months, he lost 150 pounds. It allowed him to take huge step toward realizing another dream—interviewing and training for a Customs and Border Protection job with the Department of Homeland Security.

His proudest achievement? Passing the physical exam. Something he couldn’t have ever fathomed before his surgery.
