How Do I Prepare for the Exam?

To prepare for the exam, please arrive 20 minutes before your appointment time, and wear comfortable clothing that has no metal that’s near the area being scanned.

If you’ve had plain X-rays or other exams near the extremity you’re having scanned, please bring the images with you if they were done at another facility.

If there is any possibility that you are pregnant or nursing a baby, please speak with your referring doctor before your appointment.

What Happens During the Exam?

The position we place you in during the scan depends on the area you’re having scanned. The table you lie on will rise up and move in and out of a large circle. The technologist will inform you of any special instructions.  It’s important to hold still while being scanned.

The scan typically takes 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the complexity of your exam.

What Happens After the Exam?

Following the exam, the technologist will process your images. Then a radiologist will evaluate the images, dictate a report within 24 hours, and send a transcription of the report to your doctor, who will explain the results to you.
