Referrals to the Kaplan Joint Center

The Kaplan Joint Center, a collaboration of Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, offers patients with orthopaedic conditions comprehensive evaluation and treatment in a convenient suburban location. We offer conservative treatment options and perform a wide variety of surgical procedures for the hip, knee and shoulder, including arthroscopy and total and partial joint replacement of the hip and knee.

The Joint Center has been awarded Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ Blue Distinction® for Hip and Knee Replacement. Newton-Wellesley Hospital was named by U.S. News & World Report as a “high performing” regional hospital for orthopaedics.

Our Surgeons 

Our surgeons are highly accomplished and have performed thousands of joint replacement surgeries. They also research, design implants and innovate new surgical techniques.

Collaborative Team Approach 

The Joint Center’s internist, Judy Z. Yang, MD, provides preoperative evaluations for all surgical patients in collaboration with patients’ primary care physicians and other specialists. Postoperatively, Dr. Zang works closely with the orthopaedic team and communicates with patients’ primary care physicians to ensure a seamless care experience.

Our nurse practitioners, Judy Walsh, NP, and Jo-Ann Lee, NP, provide additional access to care through office visits, phone calls and inpatient rounding.

Our nurse educator, Nancy Hiltz, RN, MS, ONC, coordinates our comprehensive patient education program, which includes preoperative classes and educational materials. She is available by phone at 617-243-5597 or by email.

Our front office staff is available to schedule appointments, help navigate visits and find answers to whatever questions you may have. We accept most insurance plans. The Joint Center also offers:

• Evidence-based pain and anti-coagulation protocols
• 24 private rooms in the spacious and tranquil Slotnick Pavilion
• Physical and occupational therapy during hospitalization, as well as case management services
• Telephonic follow-up on the day of discharge
• The new state-of-the art Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic at the Newton-Wellesley Ambulatory Care Center - Newton, which features an aquatic therapy pool.
