Quality at Newton-Wellesley Hospital

Along with our fellow member hospitals of the Mass General Brigham system, we believe in providing high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care. We continually work to achieve and surpass our goals for coordinating care, adopting the latest treatment technologies, and controlling costs. We uphold the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) definition of quality: “Doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right person, and having the best possible result.”

Components of Care

The Institute of Medicine defines quality health care as being safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable. We pride ourselves on meeting those six components:

  • Safe: Our care and treatment does not cause harm.
  • Effective: Through data capture and research, we are able to demonstrate that our care is exceptional, as evidenced by our process and outcomes measures, as well as our patient satisfaction scores.
  • Patient-centered: Our patients are treated with respect and dignity; we take their values, beliefs, and cultural diversity into account throughout their hospital visit.
  • Timely: We provide care in a timely fashion.
  • Efficient: We provide efficient care.
  • Equitable: Every individual who visits the hospital receives the same level of care regardless of age, sex, religion, socioeconomic class, and culture. We believe that all individuals deserve access to high-quality health care.

Physician Interactions with Industry

Many Mass General Brigham physicians work closely with companies that make drugs, produce medical devices or provide other products and services that are designed to improve patient care. These relationships result in the development of new and better ways to diagnose and treat illness and benefit the health of the public.

Sometimes Mass General Brigham physicians, and/or Mass General Brigham itself, are paid by the companies for providing services to the companies, such as consulting or giving educational talks; or may separately own stock in these companies. All of these situations are subject to Mass General Brigham policy and are carefully reviewed by Mass General Brigham to protect the care you receive from inappropriate influence.

Information about these relationships is available on a public website sponsored by the federal government, at https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov/search. To learn more about the Mass General Brigham policy and how Mass General Brigham handles physician relationships with industry, visit the Mass General Brigham Office for Interactions with Industry website. If you have questions about these relationships, please ask your physician or email the Office for Interactions with Industry.
