Spiritual Care After the Death of a Loved One

After the death of a loved one, you will most likely experience a painful void in your heart. This pain can be overwhelming, occasionally raising doubts about your beliefs and hopes regarding the existence of a loving God.

Please know that these feelings are a normal part of grief and that your faith is not lost, even as you feel bereft of the comfort that your faith once provided. Sharing these doubts and concerns with clergy can help to restore these broken bonds and help normalize a difficult and painful transition.

Some people find that joining a faith-based bereavement group is very helpful to them as they hear others wrestling with their own questions. Check the Internet and your local newspaper for houses of worship that offer bereavement groups at little or no cost.

Attendance at daily and weekly prayer and worship may or may not be possible for you at this time. Tears, anger and embarrassment may keep you away from those formal communities during the most intense period of grief. Be gentle with yourself, and know that this too is part of the work of grief.

All religious traditions provide structured ways to help those who are grieving. Become familiar with these techniques and suggestions. Hopefully, you will find that the wisdom of the ages is the very balm that your heart and soul have been seeking.

Let us help you find your perfect doctor.
