After you’ve had a hysterectomy, you will first be taken to a recovery room for observation. Once your blood pressure, pulse, and breathing are under control (usually within three hours), you can return home.
Generally, you’ll need to take pain medication and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, for several days after your surgery. You likely will be able to return to work after two weeks. Learn more about expectations after laparoscopic surgery.

Following surgery, you can eat whatever you feel is tolerable. You may experience nausea from the anesthesia or pain medication, which can decrease your appetite, but it’s important to stay hydrated by drinking clear liquids.
