For Schools

Student Support Team

Each high school in our catchment area has access to a student support team comprised of a child/adolescent psychiatrist and social worker from Newton-Wellesley Hospital. These trained professionals participate in high school site visits at least twice each academic year, during which time they meet with select school personnel, including principals, guidance counselors, teachers, special education teachers, behavioral specialists and other key staff, to provide consultation and discuss site-specific and student-specific concerns.

In-Service Sessions

At least once each academic year, The Resilience Project can provide in-service professional development programming on relevant youth mental health issues for school faculty and staff. Programming could include but are not limited to lectures, small-group trainings and consultations on specific school programs.

Annual Education Summit

Every October, The Resilience Project hosts an annual summit for school personnel and community partners to learn from one another about specific school innovations, best practices and future directions. The Summit is an opportunity for education, networking and advocacy for needed system-wide changes to support and improve student well-being.

For Parents

Partnership with PTOs

At least once each academic year, through partnership with each high school’s PTO, The Resilience Project can provide educational sessions for students and/or parents customized around each school’s needs and interests. Programming could include, but is not limited to educational talks, Q&A and skill-building sessions.

Parents Program

The Parents Program centers on weekly educational and skill-building sessions in a small group setting. These sessions will provide a deeper and more personalized resource on many of the same topics we address in the larger PTO talks. The Program will be open to all parents in our community and will run throughout the academic year. In addition, we plan to organize periodic special events (e.g., films, book readings, special speakers) each year related to parenting, youth mental health issues and emotional well-being that are open to both parents and families.

For Children and Adolescents

Access to Care

Families in need who live in the NWH primary service area (Natick, Needham, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley and Weston) have access to the NWH Child/Adolescent P sychiatry Outpatient Clinic for any child/adolescent mental health concerns. Families and schools who are concerned about a child or adolescent can start the referral process by calling 617-243-6328. One of our social workers will be available for consultation over the phone within 1 business day.
