The Neurophysiology Lab at Newton-Wellesley Hospital offers patients complete diagnostic testing in a convenient and comfortable atmosphere. Physicians can refer patients to the Neurophysiology Lab for symptoms such as numbness, weakness, trouble walking and neck or back pain. Using the latest technology, medical professionals in the Neurophysiology Lab work with patients and their physicians to assist in the diagnosis of a wide variety of neurological conditions.
The Neurophysiology Lab is staffed by highly trained physicians and technicians who have extensive experience performing and interpreting the special tests designed to evaluate neurological disorders quickly and accurately.
Patients scheduled for tests in the Neurophysiology Lab receive detailed information before they arrive to explain the test and what the procedure involves. When the patient comes in for their test, the physician or technician will further explain what the test entails. The physician or technician performing the test remains with the patient during the entire exam and helps him or her complete the procedure in the most comfortable manner.
Studies of the nerves and muscles performed by physicians specially trained in nerve and muscle disorders. They can help diagnose diverse disorders from carpal tunnel syndrome to pinched nerves to very serious conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Studies of visual, auditory and sensory conduction through the brain and spinal cord. These tests are performed by specialized technicians and interpreted by specially trained physicians. They are used to diagnose delays in conduction, which can be seen in multiple sclerosis and tumors of the auditory pathways.
Studies of brainwaves performed by specialized technicians and interpreted by specially trained physicians. EEGs can be used to help diagnose epilepsy, confusional states and encephalitis. Routine, sleep-deprived and extended monitoring is available.
This injection is administered by trained physicians to alleviate a variety of neurological conditions including spasticity, torticollis, facial spasms or tics and hand cramp.
When recommended by your primary care physician or specialist, these tests can be scheduled by your physician’s office through the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Central Scheduling Department.
