Your Hospital Stay

Exterior of Newton-Wellesley Hospital

Most women stay in the hospital for 48 hours after an uncomplicated birth and up to 96 hours following cesarean section in alignment with the Newborn’s and Mother’s Health Protection Act. During this time period, you will have as much time with your baby as possible. Newton-Wellesley Hospital is committed to ensuring that you and your baby are safe at all times, and have established guidelines in place for this safety.

If you did not have the opportunity for a tour of the Maternity Unit before giving birth, you may want to review additional information about your room, the nursery, cell phone use, and more. Read our general information about the hospital and frequently asked questions for more information about your stay.

When it is determined that you and your baby are ready to go home, it is important to make sure that you have everything in place that is needed, including clothing for you and your baby and a properly installed car seat. Additional information pertaining to discharge will help the process go as smoothly as possible.
