Stress Management and Resiliency Training

Mind Body Program

Learn why meditation and mindfulness are helpful in dealing with stress, anxiety and chronic pain.

  • 8 classes meeting weekly for 2 hours/class
  • $250 payable to Newton-Wellesley Hospital
  • Based on the MGH Benson-Henry Institute Program

Most people seek medical attention due to pain, anxiety and disordered sleep. All of these issues can be signs of stress. Research shows that stress may come from negative life events, such as loss of a loved one, as well as positive life events such as falling in love. It can also come from our hectic daily schedules. Stress can be motivating and lead us to grow, but it can also be overwhelming and destructive.

When we begin feeling overwhelmed by life, stress causes both physical and emotional symptoms such as chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, panic, digestive issues, teeth grinding, headaches and depression. During this 8 week Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) course, participants learn skills that are proven to change brain chemistry, reduce symptoms, improve coping and resiliency, and enhance overall quality of life.

Participants will be provided with a copy of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine workbook.
