Join us for our community programming hosted by Newton-Wellesley Hospital Community Health and The Newton-Wellesley Community Collaborative.  All events are free and open to everyone.  Please note the format of the program(s) you are attending; most are virtual, with a few being held in person.  Please join as many programs as you would like by registering via the links below.  We encourage you to share this information with family, friends, and among your networks.


Raising Resilient Teens Workshop

The Raising Resilient Teens Workshop is a seven-week skill building workshop for parents of teens offered in a small group setting on zoom.  The workshop follows a curriculum designed to help parents a) foster resilience building in their day to day parenting interactions with their teens, and to b) build their own resilience while parenting a teen.

Workshop topics include: learning about the adolescent brain and development, communication and connecting, setting expectations, knowing what to do when expectations aren't met, managing through teen stress and anxiety, and fostering healthy habits including screen time.

  • The fee for the 7 week workshop is $160. Scholarships are available.

Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age – Elementary School Edition  

  • Hosted by SPARK Kindness in collaboration with presenting community partner Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s The Resilience Project

Health professionals from Newton Wellesley Hospital host weekly community walks. Discussions on important health topics will be incorporated quarterly. Hosted by the Heart Health and Wellness Council. All are welcome to attend in any town, regardless of residency.

Jumpstart Your Healthy Life 3 part series

Newton Wellesley Hospital is proud to present this three-part series that will meet for 3 one-hour sessions over three months. We will provide tips for incorporating heart healthy nutrition, relaxation strategies to mitigate the stress of everyday life and provide stretching and strength training guidelines to reduce aches and pains. This is part of Newton Wellesley Hospital’s Community Collaborative Heart Health and Wellness Council.  

Nutrition -September 15, 1-2 p.m.

This interactive session will review guidelines for a heart healthy diet including strategies for smart snacking and making heart smart swaps. This program is presented by Jane Barr, MPH, LDN of the Newton Wellesley Hospital’s Community Collaborative Heart Health and Wellness Council.

Relaxation- November 19, 1-2 p.m.

Stretch and Strength    December 10, 1-2  p.m.

John Scherry, PT, CCS, CSCS and Daniel Destin, Exercise Physiologist will discuss the importance of strength training and the benefits of stretching. How resistance training relates to your heart heath. They will lead demonstrations to help you safely implement strength training and stretching into your routine. Discuss how these activities can reduce body aches and tightness that you feel at the start of your exercise session.

Dynamics of Stretching -September 15

Join Newton Wellesley Hospital for an energizing discussion about the Dynamics of Stretching during the next Walk and Talk Health Program. John Scherry, Physical Therapist, Manager of Cardiac Rehab and Daniel Destin, Exercise Physiologist and Fitness Specialist will share guidelines for dynamic stretching, warming up and cooling down and then join the walk to answer any questions. How Diet and Exercise Affect Osteoporosis – November 6, 11:30 a.m.

Jane Barr, MPH, LDN will discuss the current dietary recommendations for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and tips to make sure you are getting what you need to keep your bones healthy and strong. Daniel Destin, Exercise Physiologist, will provide an interactive exercise session reviewing safe exercises recommended for prevention and for people with Osteoporosis. The Diet Chronic Disease Connection - December 4, 11:30 a.m.

At the Weston Senior Center

Diet plays a crucial role in managing chronic diseases by influencing key factors such as inflammation, blood sugar levels, weight, and overall health.  Good nutrition can help prevent or alleviate some symptoms of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and hypertension.  The seminar will focus on making healthy choices and provide tools to help make smart swaps to help manage chronic conditions.  This program is presented by Jane Barr, MPH, LDN of Newton Wellesley Hospital’s Community Collaborative Heart Health and Wellness Council.
