Multi-Specialist Roles

Anesthesiologists:

Our anesthesiology-based pain service provides diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injections, diagnostic and therapeutic nerve blocks, acupuncture and other nonsurgical methods of controlling nerve pain.


Neurologists:

Our neurologists specialize in the evaluation and management of pain, numbness, and weakness that may be caused by degenerative, inflammatory, infectious and auto-immune disorders involving the spinal cord or its nerve roots.


Neurosurgeons:

Our neurosurgery staff has special training and expertise in the following areas: disc microsurgery,  tumor and vascular spinal surgery, fusion surgery, spinal trauma, Arnold-Chiari and other congenital spinal disorders, and various procedures that relieve spinal pain including implantable spinal cord stimulators.


Orthopaedic Spine Surgeons:

Our orthopaedic spine surgeons have specialized fellowship training in spine surgery. They provide expertise and skill in a wide variety of surgical procedures ranging from minimally invasive new disc surgery techniques to complex fusion and instrumentation surgeries for spinal trauma and degenerative conditions. Our orthopaedic spine surgeons treat all conditions of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques.


Physiatrists:

(also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians) Physiatrists are medical doctors with specialized training in the evaluation and nonsurgical management of spinal disorders. Our physiatrists are trained in the following areas: diagnostic evaluation, diagnostic and therapeutic spinal and soft tissue injections, pharmacologic treatment, biomechanical evaluation, exercise prescription, injury assessment, spinal bracing, and medical acupuncture.


Physical Therapists:

Our physical therapists have advanced specialized training in manual spinal intervention techniques such as joint mobilization and manipulation, therapeutic exercise program development, biomechanical analysis, job site/ task analysis and ergonomic consultation and patient education. Our physical therapists work with patients in our state-of-the-art rehabilitation center.


Psychiatrists/Psychologists:

Our mental health team helps evaluate and treat stressors that can cause or exacerbate back pain. The team offers behavioral medicine, biofeedback, psychopharmacology and mind-body pain reduction techniques.


Radiologists:

Our radiologists are experts in diagnostic imaging, using techniques like MRIs and CAT scans. They also specialize in state-of-the-art interventional injection techniques.


Rheumatologists:

Our rheumatologists specialize in managing arthritis, which can be the underlying cause of spinal pain.


Additional Specialists:

The Spine Center is also able to arrange for other specialty consultants such as thoracic and vascular surgery, endocrinology, nutritional and weight loss management, and surgical obesity management - as well as complementary healthcare services including massage therapy. The Spine Center offers the expertise of the best back experts in the Boston area in a convenient suburban setting.
