Newton-Wellesley Hospital has been designated by the Department of Public Health as a Primary Stroke Center. As a Primary Stroke Center, the Hospital complies with national standards and provides critical and immediate interventions to achieve improved stroke patient outcomes. The Acute Stroke Team at Newton-Wellesley includes neurologists, radiologists, radiology technicians, expert nurses, rehabilitation specialists and case managers.
The Stroke Service has most recently won the 2018 “Gold Plus & Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll” by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for excellence in stroke care.
Stroke recovery can be challenging physically, mentally and emotionally for patients as well as for their devoted caregivers. A support group led by hospital experts can offer you a path forward and a sense of community among people who truly understand and care.
A typical session begins with a friendly meet and greet. We then discuss areas of interest such as nutrition, outpatient services, new treatments, memory games and more. We have guest speakers to describe social services available within the community. Our programs are thoughtfully personalized based on the needs and requests of participants. The session concludes with time to share refreshments and to socialize.
Our innovative Stroke Support Group is ongoing; you may join and attend whenever it is right for you. This warm, friendly and supportive community can help you face new challenges and limitations. It may also help you incrementally regain strength and abilities and return to some activities. You are not alone in the stroke recovery journey.
