Where is the clinic located?

Our clinic is located at Newton Wellesley Hospital at 2014 Washington St. Newton, MA 02462. We are located in the Green Building Suite 665 and our phone number is 617-831-7256.

Directions, parking information and campus map

How early should I arrive for my appointment?  

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. Please note if you arrive late to your visit (>15minutes) we cannot guarantee you will be seen, and you may need to be rescheduled.

What should I expect during the visit?

  • All visits are scheduled as a consultation.
  • You will meet with a provider and have a comprehensive visit.
    • If the provider recommends a biopsy be performed, this will also be done during the visit.
    • After a thorough evaluation of medical history and ultrasound findings, providers may choose not to proceed with the biopsy.
  • There is no preparation required for this procedure, you do not need to fast.
  • You should be able to lie down on your back, with your neck extended, during the procedure.
  • This procedure is performed using ultrasound guidance under local anesthesia.
  • The Thyroid Biopsy Clinic does not offer sedation. If sedation is desired, please reach out to your primary care provider for a referral to interventional radiology.
  • The biopsy procedure itself takes 10-15 minutes.
  • We recommend avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 24 hours following the procedure, otherwise there are no activity restrictions.

What if I am taking anti-coagulation (blood thinners)?

If you are taking anti-coagulation medication such as Eliquis, Xarelto or Coumadin please contact the prescribing provider for recommendations regarding a possible medication hold.
