The Gestational Diabetes Clinic is led by expert and compassionate providers. Our goal is for women with gestational diabetes(diabetes that arises during pregnancy), as well as women who have pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes prior to pregnancy, to meet with their providers regularly to receive comprehensive diabetes care throughout the pregnancy..
During your first visit, you will meet with a registered dietitian to go over your health history, learn blood glucose testing and medical nutrition therapy for gestational diabetes. At your second visit, you will meet with an endocrinologist, who will review your blood sugar levels to determine if you should take insulin medication. If insulin is recommended, our diabetes nurse educator will provide you with instructions on how to take it. A registered dietitian or nutritionist, meanwhile, will evaluate your diet..
You will continue to meet with a diabetes nurse educator, endocrinologist, and registered dietitian as needed for the duration of your pregnancy. Additionally, you will have ultrasound and non-stress tests scheduled through the Maternal Fetal Medicine Department.
