NEWTON, MA – Newton-Wellesley Hospital has been named among the best hospitals in the United States for the sixth straight year, according to Newsweek’s 2024 “World’s Best Hospitals” rankings published Wednesday.
Newton-Wellesley was ranked 89th of the 414 American hospitals rated on the publication’s U.S.-based list and has been ranked among the top 90 hospitals in the nation since the rankings’ inception. There are currently 6,129 hospitals in the USA according to the American Hospital Association.
"It's remarkable, but not surprising, to see Newton-Wellesley recognized among the nation's top 100 hospitals once again," said Ellen Moloney, president and chief operating officer. "This achievement underscores the dedication of our exceptional staff to serving our patients with compassionate, top-notch care. I could not be more proud of them.”
The rankings, which debuted in 2019, were compiled by market and consumer data company Statista. The company says the hospital quality metrics used for the USA ranking are part of the Medicare “Hospital Compare” dataset, published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The aim is to generate a comprehensive representation of overall quality that can be interpreted by patients and consumers, but also to identify performance categories within the large number of hospitals in the U.S.
“Each hospital's score is based on an online survey of more than 85,000 medical experts and public data from post-hospitalization patient surveys on their general satisfaction,” said Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief of newsweek on the publication’s website. “There aren't many decisions more important than choosing the right hospital to provide care for yourself or a loved one.
