Geriatrics and Extended Care

Thomas P. Cunningham III, MD, Chief

White 546
Newton, MA 02462

Arthur R. Kennedy, MD, Assistant Chief
2014 Washington Street, 2nd floor

The Division of Geriatrics and Extended Care provides consultation to help physicians manage delirium in their patients and also focus on medication and narcotic choices and usage in the elderly, the prevention of falls and restraint use. They are also involved in teaching and participate in Medical Grand Rounds, resident teaching conferences and inpatient teaching.

The Geriatric Task Force, a combined physician/nursing work group, meets regularly to evaluate geriatric services and attitudes at the hospital. A subcommittee comprised of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy meets to review medication use and ordering in the elderly, with the goal of promoting better and safer medication use in this high-risk population.
