JEFFREY PHILLIPS, MD, NAMED INNOVATION DIRECTOR IN PRIMARY CARE
New Role Will Further Enhance Experience for Primary Care Patients
NEWTON, Mass. (December 11, 2018) – Newton-Wellesley Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Phillips has been named Innovation Director in Primary Care. In this new position, Dr. Phillips will focus on identifying strategies to improve the experience of primary care patients by utilizing data, technology and system design. In addition to this role, Dr. Phillips will continue to practice as a family medicine physician at Wellesley Family Care Associates.
“At Newton-Wellesley Hospital, we are continuously striving to ensure every patient has an exceptional experience and primary care is a key focus for us,” said Dr. Michael R. Jaff, President of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “Dr. Phillips’ expertise and experience in innovation and system design make him the ideal individual to lead this work.”
Dr. Phillips will work to create a more seamless, connected primary care experience for patients; increase patients’ knowledge about self-care and preventive health; and engage primary care providers and staff in efforts using innovative approaches to reduce administrative burden and other causes of burnout.
At his primary care practice in Wellesley, Dr. Phillips recently developed and implemented an innovative group visit wellness program where patients with chronic disease work together to make sustainable lifestyle changes, in areas such as nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, physical activity, motivation and support.
For the past three years, Dr. Phillips worked as Clinical Consultant for Partners Healthcare Pivot Labs alongside clinicians from across Partners to develop creative approaches to complex system problems. Since joining Newton-Wellesley last winter, Dr. Phillips has served as a member of Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s Innovation Team and Digital Health Technology Committee.
He resides in Cambridge with his wife and two daughters.
Newton-Wellesley Hospital is a full system member of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. (PHCS), a nonprofit organization that includes acute care hospitals Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, and The North Shore Medical Center.
