July 29, 2025 – Newton, MA – Newton-Wellesley Hospital has been ranked #5 in the Boston Metro Area, and #7 in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025-26 “Best Hospitals” report.
Newton-Wellesley was also recognized as high performing for gastroenterology & GI surgery as well as treatment in 13 procedures/conditions: COPD, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart arrhythmia, congestive heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, spinal fusion, pneumonia, and prostate cancer surgery.
Newton-Wellesley is in good company among its Mass General Brigham colleagues. Five Mass General Brigham hospitals, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), McLean, Mass Eye and Ear (MEE), and Spaulding Rehabilitation were once again named among the top hospitals in the nation and each also earned high marks in multiple clinical specialties. MGH and BWH are again on the U.S. News “Best Hospitals” honor roll while McLean Hospital was named #2 in the nation for psychiatry.
For a fourth consecutive year, BWH earned the top honor in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OBGYN), ranking #1 in the nation and MGH earned the top spot in Psychiatry. ranking #1 for a second consecutive year. In total, 13 unique specialties at MGH and BWH were recognized in the top 10 nationally.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 4,400 hospitals across 15 specialties and 22 procedures and conditions. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.
To calculate the Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals specialty rankings methodology and procedures and conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from millions of records provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
