You Can Make A Difference

People volunteer for many different reasons. They may wish to become actively involved in the community, meet new people, explore career possibilities, develop skills and experience or share their special touch when people are sick. Whatever the reason, volunteers do make a difference. Volunteers make it happen.

Who Volunteers?
Almost everyone. Newton-Wellesley Hospital volunteers come from all walks of life. They range in age from 14 (the minimum) to over 90 years of age. They are students, retirees, individuals who are employed full-time, vocational work groups and others who have extra time to give.

Where Do Volunteers Serve?
Volunteers work in almost every area of the Hospital. Without them, we couldn’t provide the high-quality care our community deserves. At Newton-Wellesley Hospital, you may choose to provide service to patients or their families in inpatient and outpatient areas, provide assistance to support services, provide clerical support or become involved with community outreach programs.

How Much Time Must I Commit?
At Newton-Wellesley, staff and volunteers make a mutual commitment to give quality service. We spend time training our volunteers, so we expect them to give a minimum of three to four hours each week, depending on their assignments. The total minimum commitment is 100 hours for adults per year and 50 hours for students. Certain programs, such as the Patient Representative or Surgical Liaison programs require a minimum commitment of nine months to a year.
