Volunteer Opportunities

Who volunteers and why
People volunteer for many different reasons. They may wish to become actively involved in the community, meet new people, explore career possibilities, perform school community service hours, develop skills and experience, share their special touch when people are sick, or just because it feels good. Whatever the reason, volunteers do make a difference. Volunteers make it happen!

Volunteers at Newton-Wellesley Hospital range in age from 14 years old to 90 plus years of age. They are students, retirees, those in transition, those with special skills who have extra time and individuals who are fully employed.

Volunteer Commitment
At Newton-Wellesley, Hospital staff and volunteers make a mutual commitment to give quality service. Volunteers are asked to commit three to four hours per week for a period of three to four months. Volunteers are asked to fill out an application form and come in for an informal meeting to discuss options. A one and one half hour volunteer orientation is also required.

Volunteer Benefits
Volunteers receive parking validation and a meal ticket for the time that they are at the hospital. Volunteers also receive free flu shots and an annual TB screening test. In addition, all volunteers are invited to the annual volunteer recognition program. Volunteers are also able to take advantage of all the fun and educational programs that the hospital has to offer.
