Harvard Pilgrim Health Care's Hospital and Physician Honor Roll

NEWTON, Mass. (November, 2007) –
Newton-Wellesley’s Physician Hospital Organization has once again been named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s (HPHC) fifth annual "Physician Honor Roll." The Honor Roll highlights adult and pediatric physician groups that have achieved exceptional results in their approach to disease prevention and the treatment of chronic illness. This is the fifth consecutive time that NWH physicians have achieved this designation.

In addition, Newton-Wellesley was named to HPHC’s Hospital Honor Roll. The Hospital Honor Roll names those hospitals whose performance was among the top 25% of those measured nationally based on Hospital Quality Alliance measures, as reported by CMS on Hospital Compare, and Leapfrog patient safety measures.

Harvard Pilgrim selected the Honor Roll physician groups based on clinical performance measured against national standards set by HEDIS® (Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set), a tool developed for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to assess the clinical performance of doctors and other medical professionals. Harvard Pilgrim identified practices whose performance exceeded the national 90th percentile on a majority of quality scores such as cervical and breast cancer screenings, asthma management, diabetic testing and management, and the number of well-visits a child has.

The Honor Roll is a key component of Harvard Pilgrim's strategy for providing consumers with the information necessary to make critical health care choices. Honor Roll practice providers are noted in Harvard Pilgrim's printed and online provider directories, enabling members to evaluate and select physicians based on quality measures.
