Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

NEWTON, Mass. (October 16, 2007)     Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s Manton Women’s Imaging Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

“We are proud of this achievement,” said Alan Semine, MD, Chief of Breast Imaging, Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “Newton-Wellesley Hospital is one of only a handful of hospitals in the Boston area who has been awarded this designation, which clearly illustrates the Center’s commitment to high standards and exemplary care.”

The breast imaging services at Newton-Wellesley Hospital are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that NWH has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

The Manton Women’s Imaging Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital is designed to meet the unique health care needs of women in one convenient community based location. The Center’s goal is to provide outstanding medical imaging services, emotional comfort and time efficiency for women facing often-stressful medical procedures.
