Hospital Access During the Boston Marathon - April 21, 2014

Parking Information

From West of Route 128 (I-95)
Take the Mass Pike to Route 128 (I-95). Proceed South on 128 (I-95) for less than one mile. Take exit 21/21A to Route 16 East. Proceed on Route 16 East 1/4 mile to the Hospital’s East Entrance (second entrance). Valet parking is also available.

From Boston
Take the Mass Pike to Exit 16 (West Newton). Follow Route 16 West for 1-1/4 miles to the Hospital’s East Entrance. Patient/Visitor parking is available at the entrance. Valet parking is also available.

From North or South Route 128 (I-95)
Take Exit 21/21A to Route 16 East. Proceed on Route 16 East 1/4 mile to the Hospital’s East Entrance (second entrance). Valet parking is also available.

Take Green Riverside line (D Train), outbound, to Woodland stop. Walk out to Washington Street and turn left. Hospital is two short blocks on the left.

The MetroWest Regional Transit Authority offers Route 1 and Route 8 bus service for Framingham, Natick and Wellesley commuters with a stop at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital Patriots’ Day/Boston Marathon Campus Access: Monday, April 21, 2014

Patriots' Day Directions to Newton-Wellesley Hospital

  • From Route 128 take Route 9 East.
  • Immediately after merging onto Route 9 East, take the first road bearing off to the right.
  • Take the second left under Route 9 onto Chestnut Street.
  • Follow Chestnut Street to Beacon Street.
  • Turn right on to Dorset Road.
  • Follow Dorset Road for approximately 1/2 mile to the dirt entrance road to the Hospital.

Due to limited access to the Newton-Wellesley Hospital campus, the
Waltham Urgent Care Center will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on Patriot’s Day, Monday, April 21, 2014.

The annual running of the Boston Marathon will take place on Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 21, 2014. The race passes directly in front of the Hospital. Subsequently, Washington Street and the Route 16 access ramps to Route 128 will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from approximately 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

During these hours of limited access, all visitors must enter and exit the Hospital via the Dorset Road entrance. Dorset Road is located off Beacon Street, approximately 1/2 mile from Washington Street. On campus traffic will be directed by Public Safety and valet staff.

The Woodland MBTA parking lot will also be closed from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Commonwealth Avenue will be closed from Washington Street to the Boston line from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. No vehicles will be allowed to cross Washington Street or Commonwealth Avenue during the hours of limited access.

The Hospital has been advised to discourage visitors from visiting the Hospital during the hours of limited access (7:30 am to 6:00 pm) on April 21, 2014 due to traffic congestion concerns. Recorded information and directions are available by calling 617-243-5315. To ensure the safety of our patients, staff and race spectators, there will be additional Public Safety Officers and Police personnel on the Hospital campus throughout the day.
