Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s orthopedic physical therapists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of patients with a variety of orthopedic conditions involving the spine, extremities, and sport related injuries. We provide treatment to individuals with acute injuries, post-operative conditions including spine and total joint surgery, and those with persistent pain (longer than 3 months).
Examples of some of the types of conditions that we help manage include:
- Acute and Persistent Neck or Back Pain
- Shoulder Injuries/Pain
- Elbow Injuries/Pain
- Knee Injuries/Pain
- Hip Injuries/Pain
- Foot and Ankle Injuries/Pain
Your initial evaluation will include an interview to gain an understanding of the condition, to generate the most important goals, and to develop an individualized plan of care. The focus of your rehabilitation is to decrease pain, restore joint mobility and range of motion, improve strength and stability in order to improve activities of daily living, return to work and recreational activities.
Therapists incorporate latest evidence when developing your treatment plan. Follow up treatments include focused one-on-one sessions with your physical therapist, including:
- Patient education
- Specific exercise based on your initial examination
- Manual therapy to include stretching, joint mobilization and manipulation
- Modalities (Ice, heat, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis)
