Newton-Wellesley Hospital's inpatient occupational therapists work with adults following orthopedic surgeries, including hip replacements and resurfacing, knee replacements, hip fractures, spine and upper limb surgeries.

Our inpatient therapists have expertise in the evaluation and treatment of functional limitations & needs following surgery. These may include:

  • Activities of daily living, such as self care, home & community skills
  • Recommendations and training in the use of adaptive equipment
  • Functional transfers and mobility
  • Upper limb exercise programs
  • Home safety needs

Patient and family education are a critical component of occupational therapy intervention. Depending on the person’s needs and interests, the occupational therapist may focus on training in the use of adaptive equipment and techniques to maximize engagement in everyday activities following surgery. When appropriate, referrals for continued occupational therapy services are completed to ensure continuity of care when patients are discharged from the hospital.

Service Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
