Patient Care Quality Committee

The Patient Care Quality Committee (PCQ) meets on a regular basis and exists to provide an interdisciplinary forum for evaluating the quality and appropriateness of patient care and related activities. Findings from departmental QI indicators, and other issues requiring team problem solving, are discussed and recommendations for action are developed. This information is then reported to the hospital's Patient Safety Steering Committee. The Nursing Leadership Committee (NLC) members, along with colleagues from rehab services, respiratory therapy, nutrition, pharmacy, infection control, Health Care Quality and other clinical ancillary departments comprise the PCQ Committee.

During 2009, the primary focus areas for the committee were related to the review and improvement of nursing sensitive measures (falls and falls with injury, medical and behavioral restraints, and pressure ulcers), enhancement to patient education, improved compliance with hand hygiene and implementation and evaluation of the adherence to practices associated with the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) and other related Joint Commission standards.
