Your Care

At Newton-Wellesley Hospital, we offer families a supportive environment, which includes superb nursing care and the assurance that a neonatologist or critical care pediatric specialist is available around-the-clock. Board-certified anesthesiologists and an obstetrician are also on the unit 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide additional support or consultation to your obstetrician or midwife.

Thomas Beatty, MD, Chair, Department of OB/GYN

"Taking care of Newton-Wellesley’s smallest and most vulnerable patients, and providing families with comfort and care, is my true passion – that’s what inspired me to become a nurse in the Special Care Nursery. Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing our newborns become, strong, healthy babies, ready to start their lives with their families." - Andrea Fede, Clinical Nurse Director, Special Care Nursery

"As a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist, I provide care for pregnant women who are at risk for complications, who have a history of complications, or are currently experiencing a complicated pregnancy. Each patient is unique in her history and her own feelings about the pregnancy. My goal is to provide expert, empathetic care to each of my patients as she proceeds through her pregnancy, resulting in the healthiest mother and baby possible. I truly value discussing all aspects of care with every patient so she can make informed decisions and choose what is right for her and her baby." - Lisa Dunn-Albanese, MD, Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine

Libby and Liam’s Story

"My family members are doctors, so I know what the best health care looks like. It looks like Newton-Wellesley. The hospital established an excellent track record with us over the years, treating my chronic migraines. We had no question about where we wanted prenatal and maternity care: Newton-Wellesley. During my two pregnancies, I struggled with severe hyperemesis gravidarum, requiring multiple hospitalizations. The Newton-Wellesley team was great through it all and helped us welcome Claire and Liam into the world. Newton-Wellesley is hands down the best hospital with the best doctors. My favorite part about my time at NWH was the incredible care of the support staff in addition to the doctors, especially the nurses. They really are a big part of the reason we've chosen NWH for our care time and time again. They’ve been loyal to us, and we’ll be loyal to them."

Brandee and Poppy’s Story

"A community reputation means a lot, so I rely on word of mouth when I need an important referral. When I was struggling with infertility, a friend recommended I go to Newton-Wellesley to see IVF specialist Dr. Rachel Ashby. I was thrilled to become pregnant after one round of IVF! When complications developed at 31 weeks, I was admitted to Newton-Wellesley and had an emergency C-section at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During that frightening time, Dr. Ashby reassured me, ‘You have the best of the best behind you and your baby right now.’ Poppy Christina was born weighing just 3 pounds 1.4 ounces, and stayed in the NICU at Newton-Wellesley. I’ve never felt so safe at a hospital. Now, whenever I’m away from Poppy, the first thing I write on my care instructions is, ‘If Poppy ever needs medical attention, TAKE HER TO NEWTON-WELLESLEY!’"

Aleena and Alan’s Story

"When getting a great recommendation really matters, I always turn to my family or inner circle of friends. They’re my go-to advisors. That’s how I chose Newton-Wellesley and Dr. Beatty to deliver my two sons. My mom had made that very same choice 30 years ago. And I wanted to give my babies the same great start in life that my brother and I had been lucky enough to have. During both my pregnancies and deliveries, Newton-Wellesley had a network of specialists that worked as a team to care for me and my sons. Their communication was smooth, so there were no redundant questions for me to answer. Newton-Wellesley was the right choice for my family’s latest generation. I should have known: They had already been vetted by the best!"
