Michael R. Jaff, DO, President of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, will be leaving Newton-Wellesley Hospital to join Boston Scientific as Vice President of Clinical Affairs, Innovation and Technology, Peripheral Interventions.
Boston Scientific as Vice President of Clinical Affairs, Innovation and Technology, Peripheral Interventions.
At Boston Scientific, Dr. Jaff will lead clinical and medical affairs strategies to support the development and commercialization of their peripheral vascular medical device portfolio—and drive engagement with external stakeholders to advance technologies that deliver strong clinical value and enable patient care.
This is a tremendous opportunity for Dr. Jaff—a world-renowned vascular specialist who has continued to practice vascular medicine while serving as President—to have an even greater impact on vascular medicine and patients around the world.
In 2016, Dr. Jaff took the helm of Newton-Wellesley, a member of Partners HealthCare, and has since reinvigorated the hospital with a bold vision to transform the way health care is delivered, to exceed patient expectations and position Newton-Wellesley for future success. During this time, Dr. Jaff has overseen the development of an acute care surgery program that ensures 24/7 community-based coverage for urgent surgical needs, and a robotic surgery program that provides leading-edge minimally invasive procedures to patients close to home.
Additionally, Dr. Jaff engaged design-thinking firm IDEO to help Newton-Wellesley reimagine the patient experience; established hospital programs and community relationships to combat the opioid epidemic; and fostered a culture of innovation and empowerment to capture the tremendous ideas of Newton-Wellesley’s workforce.
Below is an excerpt taken from a message that Dr. Jaff shared with internal and external constituents on October 15, 2019:
“This has been a tough message for me to write. I have come to know so many of you personally during my time at NWH and working with you has been an incredible privilege and honor. Please know that I will be watching your progress with hope and excitement. I have no doubt you will continue to be the best community hospital in the nation.”
Dr. Gregg Meyer, Partners HealthCare’s Chief Clinical Officer, will serve as interim president during the search for a permanent leader for Newton-Wellesley. Dr. Jaff will remain deeply involved in all transition plans moving forward. He leaves Newton-Wellesley in the talented and highly-skilled hands of a team dedicated to providing safe, high-quality care and an unparalleled patient experience.
