ONLINE REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR NEWTON-WELLESLEY HOSPITAL’S NINTH ANNUAL HOPE WALKS EVENT TO benefit Cancer care
NEWTON, Mass. (August 29, 2018) – Newton-Wellesley Hospital has announced that online registration is now underway (www.nwh.org/hopewalks2018) for the ninth annual Hope Walks event to be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018. One of Newton-Wellesley’s most beloved traditions, Hope Walks is a 3.3-mile walk to benefit cancer care.
Funds raised from this event will benefit the Hospital’s Integrative Support Services, providing cancer patients access to life-saving treatments and highly individualized, compassionate care that considers their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. These services include: nutrition and genetic counseling, yoga, psycho-social services, patient navigation, survivorship initiatives as well as the Pappas PACT (Parenting at a Challenging Time), a parent guidance program for patients with children impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
“We are excited to bring together members of our community at Hope Walks to celebrate our patients and caregivers and raise vital philanthropic support for underfunded programs and services that benefit our patients and families at Newton-Wellesley Hospital,” says Lawrence Blaszkowsky, MD, Chief, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Medical Director, Vernon Cancer Center.
The Hope Walks route begins and ends at the Hospital. Check-in begins at 9:00 AM, opening ceremonies start at 9:30 AM and the walk begins at 10:00 AM. Adults are $40 per person ($35 until September 15); kids 9 years and under are free; and dogs (on leash) are also welcome.
New this year: walkers who raise $250 will receive a Hope Walks gift; walkers who raise $1,000 or more will receive a special Hope Walks gift and day of event recognition. Walker registration includes an event t-shirt, BBQ lunch, and DJ entertainment with family-friendly activities.
