NEWTON-WELLESLEY TO OFFER NEW APPROACH TO HEALTH CARE
NEWTON, Mass. (April, 2018) – Residents of the western suburbs will now have a new option for primary care and preventive cardiology. Dr. Kimberly Parks, an internal medicine physician and cardiovascular specialist, in collaboration with Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Castle Connolly Private Health Partners, LLC (CCPHP) has established a membership practice that will offer its members a new approach to health care. Renowned internist and cardiologist, Dr. Parks will see patients at her new membership practice, Synergy Private Health, located at 978 Worcester Street, Wellesley. She will move to her permanent location at 300 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill in the Fall of 2018.
Through this new membership-based practice model, patients will receive an exceptionally high level of personalized care, same-day and next-day appointments, extended office visits, enhanced connectivity to over 50,000 Castle Connolly Top Doctors®, access to the innovative and personalized SENS Solution® Wellness program, greater hospital care navigation and a range of exclusive amenities for members.
Synergy Private Health members will have the option of concierge level service and priority scheduling with leading specialists in the Newton-Wellesley community.
Dr. Parks’ decision to launch this new model of personalized care is based on her desire to help people live longer, healthier lives by focusing on positive lifestyle choices and preventive care. It will also enable her to spend more time with patients, discuss their health concerns in greater depth, and better coordinate care. While she will continue to treat complex illness and disease, her overall goal is to deliver the type of care that helps patients avoid serious health problems.
“People living throughout our communities are looking for different types of care and it is our responsibility to meet those expectations,” said Dr. Michael R. Jaff, President of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. “This membership-based model provides a highly-personalized primary care experience with the addition of many exclusive health and wellness features that some consumers are looking for.”
During her years as a heart transplant cardiologist, Dr. Kimberly Parks cared for patients dealing with serious illnesses – often with end-of-life disease and a need for palliative care. “It made me wonder why we, as a medical community, aren’t doing more preventive care earlier,” she recalls. “For example, 80 percent of deaths from cardiovascular disease are related to preventable risk factors.”
Close collaboration with colleagues at Newton-Wellesley’s Elfers Cardiovascular Center will help Dr. Parks identify these risk factors, while providing patients with robust multidisciplinary care dedicated to the primary prevention, early diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular disease.
Among the plans for the new membership practice are a teaching kitchen, a type of cooking school where members can learn about healthy eating, training on the right eating plan to support members’ individual health needs and practical tips on incorporating nutrition changes into a busy lifestyle. Stress management is also a key component of the practice mission. “Many health problems today are directly connected to stress, especially among executives,” Dr. Parks points out.
And because early detection of health problems can lead to easier and more successful treatment, Dr. Parks is integrating specialized screenings that are typically not included in traditional screening protocols. For example, members will have the opportunity to undergo a robust health risk assessment and blood testing to identify areas where health can be optimized. Once the health risk assessment has been obtained, a health management plan will be devised using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates a nutritionist and health coach.
“Part of restoring health and preventing disease is easier access to care,” she says. “I am committed to providing same-day or next-day appointments as well as being quickly available via email or texts. So, for example, if my patients are traveling and forgot to bring their medication, or if they get sick and need medical care, they can reach out to me for help. It’s like taking your doctor with you wherever you go.”
A graduate of Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Parks has been practicing medicine for 17 years and is board certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.
