5th Annual Event Raised over $5,000 for Breast Cancer Prevention
Fifty-five rowers set out on a 26.2-mile (42,195 meters) journey on Monday, April 19, 2010, traveling a combined 1,055,000 meters or 655 miles. Moreover, they traveled all this distance without ever leaving the grounds of Newton-Wellesley Hospital!
The 5th annual Newton Wellesley Hospital ERG Marathon went off at 10:00 AM under cool, cloudy skies at around mile seventeen of the Boston Marathon Route. This event, organized by Dr. Fred Millham, NWH's Chief of Surgery and avid erg rower, raises money for the Auerbach Breast Center and its innovative High Risk Breast Cancer Assessment Program, which identifies patients who are at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer and offers a consultation to discuss next step options.
 With twenty-five+ rowing machines arranged along the sidewalk on Washington St (Rt. 16), rowers steadily pulled on their "oars" while the runners of the Boston Marathon raced by. Rowers from as far away as Andover and Lowell rowed the distance individually or in relays with others. Noble and Greenough, Newton South High School, and UMass Lowell were well represented, as was Community Rowing Inc.

Event Raises More than $5,000
This year's Rowing Marathon has raised over $5,000 to date to benefit the NWH's High Risk Breast Cancer Assessment Program.
We also wish to acknowledge the generous support of Olympic Moving and Storage who provided all of the transportation services for the ERG machines used in the event. In addition, logo and graphic design services were generously donated by Susan Gray and Robert Gustin.
