iPhone App
Last October, Newton-Wellesley launched the mobile website and homepage wait time widget. The growing adoption of smartphone technology is revolutionizing not only how healthcare is delivered, but also how hospital administrations interact with patients. “Our hospital is located right on the Northeast’s Tech Corridor. With a technologically savvy patient population, we knew we needed to provide convenient mobile applications, such as the ER wait time, mobile website, and iPhone app," said Brian O’Dea, Director of Public Affairs and Marketing at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. In the first phase of the project completed in October, MedTouch developed the homepage ER wait time widget, dynamically updated every five minutes for real-time reporting, and launched a dedicated mobile website. The iPhone application with wait time integration adds to the cutting edge features of the mobile website with an additional searchable provider database, complete with physician profile pages optimized for smartphone use including directions quick-links and contact information for all physicians. “The iPhone application improves access to the hospital for patients, who can now find and contact Newton-Wellesley physicians on the go,” said Sandra Fancher, Vice President of Client Services and Strategy at MedTouch. “With the launch, Newton-Wellesley Hospital is also now able to accurately demonstrate the efficiency and speed of care delivery available to patients who choose the hospital for their medical services. Wait time reporting is also a great service for patients, who can use the information to better gauge how long their hospital visit will take.” Newton-Wellesley Hospital is a full system member of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. PHCS), a nonprofit organization that includes acute care hospitals Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospitals, The North Shore Medical Center, and specialty hospitals McLean Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, and the community-based doctors and hospitals of Partners Community HealthCare, Inc.
