Blue Distinction Designation Awarded to Center for Weight Loss Surgery

NEWTON, Mass. (October, 2008) –Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has recently recognized the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery.

Part of a nationwide program, this important designation recognizes 16 medical facilities across the state that are making a difference in healthcare outcomes and value in a variety of areas.

Based on clinical data from hospitals and registries, research indicates that Blue Distinction Centers demonstrate better, more consistent overall outcomes with fewer post-procedure complications and lower mortality rates. This designation provides consumers with a credible means of selecting facilities that best meet their individual specialty care needs.
