Newton-Wellesley Upgrades to Meditech's Version 2 Allergies
Michael Zacks, MD, Hospitalist
April 2010
On May 18th, 2010, Newton-Wellesley Hospital plans to upgrade to Meditech’s Version 2 allergies.
Features of the new allergy management system include:
- A common allergy repository that all disciplines will reference and contribute to.
- Greater user control of allergy definition. This will include direct user entry, editing, and deletion of allergies including food and environmental allergies. Users will also be able to specify allergy severity and reactions.
- More timely warning of allergies. Upon entry of patient allergies, all users will have immediate access to this information and will be warned if drugs are ordered that may conflict with these allergies.
- The upgraded version of Meditech allergies is a prerequisite for integration with the Partners Enterprise Allergy Repository (PEAR). This will allow NWH Meditech allergies to integrate with the allergies from other Partners’ systems, such as the LMR. Planned implementation of integration with PEAR is Spring 2011.
Open user training sessions for the new allergy management system will be held in Shipley Auditorium beginning Monday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 16th. Specific dates and times will be posted to the HIS Support Desk link on the NWH Intranet. In addition, 24 hour onsite support is planned for several days following the upgrade. More detailed information on implementation and training plans will be communicated via emails and department meetings in the coming month.
