EMR Update
Partners Community Health Care (PCHI) has been engaged in a multi-year initiative to deploy a preferred ambulatory-based electronic medical record (EMR) in all physician practices that are affiliated with their provider network. The NWPHO has chosen to adopt the Partners Longitudinal Medical Record (LMR) as its preferred EMR. The PCHI Board and, in turn, the NWPHO Board have made deployment of a preferred EMR system a condition of participation in PCHI and the NWPHO given that most of our medical management initiatives and contract performance measures require the use of a common clinical platform across all practices in the Network. The participation deadlines linked to EMR deployment are as follows: Primary Care Physicians
Specialists
PCPs and SPCs
Out of the remaining 83 physicians, four of the five PCPs have a signed commitment in place and are expected to be live no later than December 1, 2008. The remaining PCP chose to sign with GE Centricity. As for the 78 Specialists, the three NWH clinic-based specialists are in the process of scheduling their training on the LMR. The remaining 75 specialists represent forty-four separate private practices comprised mostly of solo practitioners. Twenty three of these practices represent 46 Specialists who are closely aligned with Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The NWPHO is actively engaged with many of these practices in securing an LMR contract and planning for their deployment. The final sixteen private practices cover the remaining 29 Specialists who are more closely aligned with another hospital outside our provider network. The NWPHO continues to work with these practices to determine the benefits of deploying the LMR System and securing their decision. Since the “clock is ticking” and because the NWPHO competes with other PCHI affiliated service organization for open slots on the implementation schedule, the remaining practices have been asked to finalize implementation by signing a commitment to deploy the LMR System no later than June 30, 2008.NWPHO’s goal is to complete all implementation prior to the deadline of CYE 2009. |
