The award is given to a physician who has demonstrated a longstanding devotion to education; values the importance of the physical examination; conveys an interest in the patient, not just the diagnosis; teaches the techniques of a skilled patient interview; serves as a role model; and has received outstanding evaluations from students.Mark Drapkin, MD, Associate Chief of Infectious Diseases, was the recipient of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Faculty Teaching Award from the Annual MGH Department of Medicine Teaching Awards. Lawrence Friedman, MD, Chair of the Department of Medicine, is co-editor of the ninth edition of Sleisenger and Fordtran’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, which has just been published. He is one of three editors and co-authored two chapters. Sleisenger and Fordtran’s is the premier textbook of gastroenterology in the world. Frederick Millham, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery, contributed a chapter on acute abdominal pain. Pablo Gazmuri, MD, Associate Medical Director of the Center for Weight Loss Surgery, received the Allen Locke Physician Award. This award is presented annually to a physician who exemplifies Dr. Locke’s generous spirit, kindness and compassion while providing the highest level of personal care. |
