Hubert Caplan, MD, Rheumatology, received the Angelo Pappanikou MD Award. The award is given to a physician who has demonstrated a longstanding devotion to education; values the importance of the physical examination; conveys an interest in the patient, not just the diagnosis; teaches the techniques of a skilled patient interview; serves as a role model; and has received outstanding evaluations from students.
Mark Drapkin, MD, Associate Chief of Infectious Diseases, was the recipient of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Faculty Teaching Award from the Annual MGH Department of Medicine Teaching Awards.
Lawrence Friedman, MD, Chair of the Department of Medicine, is co-editor of the ninth edition of Sleisenger and Fordtran’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases, which has just been published. He is one of three editors and co-authored two chapters. Sleisenger and Fordtran’s is the premier textbook of gastroenterology in the world. Frederick Millham, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery, contributed a chapter on acute abdominal pain.
Pablo Gazmuri, MD, Associate Medical Director of the Center for Weight Loss Surgery, received the Allen Locke Physician Award. This award is presented annually to a physician who exemplifies Dr. Locke’s generous spirit, kindness and compassion while providing the highest level of personal care.
Kenneth Polivy, MD, Orthopaedics, received the Twenty-Five Years of Service Award from Tufts University School of Medicine.
Michael Reinhorn, MD, General Surgery, received the "Compassionate Caregiver" Award from the Schwartz Center.
Evan Schumer, MD and Bruce Leslie, MD, Orthopaedics, had chapters published in the book, Master Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery: The Wrist edited by Richard H. Gelberman. They co-wrote the chapters "Fragment Specific Fixation of Wrist Fractures" and "Open Reduction Internal Fixation of the Ulnar Styloid".
