Pioneer Accountable Care OrganizationNewton-Wellesley Hospital, a member of Partners HealthCare, is participating in a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model. The initiative, sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center, aims to transform the way that health care is delivered by providing Medicare patients with higher quality, while slowing cost growth through enhanced care coordination. Many primary care physicians affiliated with Newton-Wellesley Hospital, which is a member of Partners HealthCare, are taking part in this new initiative. Medicare patients of these physicians have been notified of this change. A goal of ACOs is to improve communication among a patient's caregivers.
