Adult/Geriatric Care
Newton-Wellesley Hospital's outpatient occupational therapists work with older adults who present with changes in daily functioning due to age-related impairments. We believe that effective geriatric care involves strong collaboration with the patient’s family, caregivers, and referring physician.
Our adult therapists have expertise in the evaluation and treatment of age-related changes in functional abilities, such as:
- Activities of daily living including self care, home & community skills
- Cognitive impairments including problems with memory, attention or problem solving
- Visual & perceptual impairments impacting participation in daily tasks
- Coordination and movement disorders
- Home safety needs
Depending on the person’s needs and interests, occupational therapy intervention may focus on restoring lost abilities or teaching the patient and caregivers how to use adaptive equipment and techniques to maximize engagement in everyday activities and enhance quality of life.
To schedule an appointment please call the Rehabilitation Services Department at 617-243-6172. We will be happy to answer any questions regarding referral and insurance requirements.
