About Us
The Department of Psychiatry provides emergency evaluations, inpatient psychiatric care and consultation to the general hospital 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.
Two, locked inpatient units exist and provide acute care to adults. One unit is licensed to provide care for 25 patients and the smaller unit is licensed to care for 20 patients.
Although the Department does not offer routine outpatient services, no inpatient is discharged without an aftercare appointment at a suitable clinic or private practice.
The special strengths of the Department include: rapid response, direct care by experienced psychiatrists, the resources of an acute-care general hospital, ECT—even for medically fragile patients, when indicated, and a full-scale hospital-based operation seven days a week.
