Located on 6-South in the Pediatric Ambulatory Care Unit, the Child Psychiatry Service provides outpatient evaluation and consultation to children (up to age 18) referred by their pediatrician.
We see children with a wide range of issues: Some children and families need help adjusting to stressful circumstances such as illness, death or divorce. Other children have diagnoses such as Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, depression, anxiety, developmental delays, eating disorders, or psychosis.
We provide a thorough evaluation and develop a treatment plan, including referrals to additional evaluators or treaters as necessary. Patients requiring medication may be followed here or by appropriate community providers. Patients requiring play or talk therapy or behavioral interventions are generally referred back to their community.
Some ancillary services such as neurology, speech and language, or nutrition consultation and management are available here on the unit. Other services such as psychological testing or family or group therapy are available through community resources.
The service also provides psychiatric consultation to patients on the pediatric inpatient unit located on 5-West of the hospital.
