The Division of Geriatrics is composed of six general internists who have a secondary subspecialty in Geriatrics. A major focus of the division continues to be the management of delirium. Other areas of focus include medication and narcotic choices and usage in the elderly, the prevention of falls, and restraint use.
The Geriatric Task Force, a combined physician/nursing work group, meets regularly to evaluate geriatric services and attitudes at the hospital. A subcommittee comprised of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy meets to review medication use and ordering in the elderly, with the goal of promoting better and safer medication use in this high-risk population.
The division is also involved in teaching and participates in Medical Grand Rounds, resident teaching conferences, and inpatient teaching.
