U.S. NEWS Ranks Newton-Wellesley as High Performing
U.S. News & World Report recently released its annual Best Hospitals rankings, showcasing more than 700 of the nation’s 5,000 hospitals. U.S. News recognized Newton-Wellesley as “high performing” in the areas of diabetes & endocrinology, geriatrics, orthopaedics and urology.
“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just three percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty."

Newton-Wellesley Hospital designated a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology
Newton-Wellesley Hospital has been designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) by the AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists) and Surgical Review Corporation. This program recognizes surgeons and facilities that demonstrate an unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care. The program is structured to help minimally invasive gynecologic surgery providers continuously improve care quality and patient safety.
AHA/ASA Award Recognizes Newton-Wellesley’s Success in Caring for Stroke Patients
Newton-Wellesley Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®- Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes our commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
To receive the award, Newton-Wellesley achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 Get With The Guidelines- Stroke Quality Measures, which are reporting initiatives to measure quality of care.
Blue Cross Blue Shield designates Newton-Wellesley Hospital a Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement and Spine Surgery
Newton-Wellesley has been designated a Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement and Spine Surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Newton-Wellesley was evaluated by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts on the ability to deliver high-quality and safe care for patients undergoing knee and hip replacement and spine surgery. Additionally, Newton-Wellesley has met efficiency measures that address patients’ needs for affordable health care – designating us as a Center+.
This designation, based on objective, evidence-based selection criteria, indicates to patients and our referring physicians that Newton-Wellesley provides safe, high-quality care when delivering knee/hip replacement and spine surgery. The Blue Distinction Centers initiative has more than 15 years of experience in working with expert physicians and medical organizations to help consumers find quality specialty care while encouraging health care professionals to improve the overall quality and delivery of care.
Newton-Wellesley Receives Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer
The Vernon Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital is one of 79 cancer care facilities nationwide that recently received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons.
Award criteria were based on qualitative and quantitative surveys conducted last year. The purpose of the award is to raise the bar on quality cancer care, with the ultimate goal of increasing awareness about quality care choices among cancer patients and their loved ones. Established in 2004, the CoC’s Outstanding Achievement Award is designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.
Boston Business Journal Recognizes Newton-Wellesley as a Best Place to Work!
The Boston Business Journal has named Newton-Wellesley Hospital as one of the Best Places to Work in Massachusetts! This honor recognizes our achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, working conditions and company culture. Newton-Wellesley was one of more than 400 companies to qualify for consideration based on a two-stage nomination process and the results of employee satisfaction surveys taken during the spring.
