Serving communities throughout Greater Boston, The Service of Otolaryngology at Newton-Wellesley Hospital provides a wide range of services to both adult and pediatric patients. Audiology, including evoked response and vestibular testing, is available through our physicians’ offices. Swallowing and voice evaluation and therapy are available on and off campus. Emergency and consultative services are available 24 hours daily. 735 otolaryngology procedures were performed in Newton-Wellesley’s state-of-the-art surgical facility in 1998, making Otolaryngology the fifth most active of twelve surgical services.
The Service is comprised of 18 otolaryngologists: nine active, two provisional, and seven courtesy staff members.
In addition to general otolaryngology services, subspecialists provide expertise in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck surgical oncology, and otology and neurotology, Otolaryngologists coordinate the care of patients with head and neck malignancies with our medical and radiation oncologists. A multidisciplinary team has recently been assembled to treat patients with malignant melanoma, utilizing sentinel lymph node mapping.
The staff provides medical students and residents with formal didactics, clinical office rotations, and operative exposure. Most staff members hold clinical faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine.
